Game Of Thrones Prequel House Of The Dragon Pauses Production Due To COVID Exposure

Filming on the Game of Thrones live-action prequel, The House of the Dragon, has temporarily stopped in the UK as a result of COVID-19. Filming will stop for two days after someone involved with the show tested positive for the virus.

“As part of the rigorous testing implemented for all production employees, a Zone A production member on House of the Dragon tested positive for COVID-19. In compliance with industry guidelines, the production member is in isolation, and close contacts will be required to quarantine,” HBO said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cameras will start rolling again this Wednesday, July 21. Monday, July 19 is the day that the UK lifted nearly all of its restrictions. Cases are currently surging again in the UK.

House of the Dragon tells the story of the Targaryen Civil War and features Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.

In other news, it was recently reported that HBO is developing two additional Game of Thrones animated shows, bringing the total to three. However, development doesn’t mean production, so there is no word on if any of them will actually go forward and be seen through to release. Meanwhile, it’s also been reported that HBO recently canceled one of the other live-action Game of Thrones concepts, Flea Bottom.

The only Game of Thrones spin-off that is currently confirmed for release is The House of the Dragon, which is scheduled to debut in 2022.
